Why Buy Cordless Vacuum Cleaner?

You might be wondering if a cordless vacuum cleaner is really worth it, and my personal opinion it is a resounding yes!

Especially if you have a larger home with significant floor space, or if you just have a home that gets messy quickly from your kids or hardwood floors that show every speck of dust, a cordless vacuum cleaner makes hoovering so much easier – which hopefully means your home is much more likely to stay clean.

Cordless vacuum cleaners have become super hi-tech, too, meaning you won’t have to compromise on quality compared to a corded vacuum cleaner.

How To Choose The Best Cordless Vacuum 2020

When you’re looking for the best buy cordless vacuum cleaners for you, it’s important to consider what you’ll be using it for and choose the right model accordingly. I’ll run through the most critical factors to keep in mind below, so make sure to read through these – as different stick vacuum cleaners are best suited for different types and size of homes.

Types

When you’re looking for the top cordless vacuum cleaners, there are two main types of cordless vacuum cleaners on the market in Australia – which are stick cordless vacuum cleaners and upright vacuum cleaners. I’ll go into a bit more detail about the pros and cons of each of these styles.

Stick Cordless Vacuum

If you’re wondering what the difference is between a ‘stick’ cordless vacuum and an ‘upright’ one, the difference is mainly design related. Still, there are some differences in performance as well.

Some of the main advantages of the best rated cordless stick vacuum are that they are lighter, more compact and take up less space than an upright cleaner, making them a great option if you have less storage space.

Stick vacuums generally have lower airflow (although with some top of the range models you won’t notice much difference) and smaller heads making them more suitable for less heavy-duty cleaning.

Upright Cordless Vacuum

The best upright cordless vacuum cleaner has a larger head, making it more suitable for heavy-duty cleanups removing debris from carpets or floors, with more airflow. This means that they tend to weigh more and take up more space.

An upright vacuum cleaner is better for cleaning larger surface areas or carpeted floors that trap more dirt, but if you have a small space with mostly hardwood or tiled floors, you may find that a stick vacuum cleaner is a better option for you.

Weight

When reading the different cordless vacuum cleaner reviews, it’s important to pay attention to the weight of the cleaner.

If you’re going to need to move your vacuum up and downstairs, you’re going to want to go for an option that’s not too heavy. The same applies for getting into those corners also – we all know how tricky it can be to get a heavy vacuum cleaner into all those nooks and crannies that dust finds its way into!

Unfortunately some of the cordless vacuum cleaners that are marketed as lightweight come with a hefty price tag, and you can find yourself being charged a premium if you want the lightest cordless vacuum cleaner on the market. If you’re not so fussed about having a very lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner, then you can save a lot of money by not going for a lightweight model.

There are also plenty of good in-between options that will be easy enough to clean with, depending on the layout of your home.

Battery Life / Running & Charging Time

One of the most important metrics to look at when reading top rated cordless stick vacuum cleaner reviews is battery time. There’s a huge range in battery performance between models – with some cleaners only lasting 10 minutes on max power, with others lasting up to an hour or more on a moderate setting. How long you need the battery to last for will of course depend on the size of your home and how dirty it gets.

It’s also important to note how long the charge time is. You don’t want to run out of charge only to find it’ll take another 5 hours to charge up to use again! Fortunately, there are many models which charge within an hour or less in case you need to use your vacuum at frequent intervals.

Floor Heads

Another key criteria to consider when choosing the right cordless vacuum for you is which type of floor heads it comes with. If you have a mixture of floor surfaces, including tiles, carpet and wooden floors, you will want the best cordless vacuum with attachments.

You can even find some cordless vacuum cleaner models that adjust automatically to different floor surfaces, making cleaning even easier. Other models include different heads for different surfaces – but do double check which attachments your preferred cleaner comes with to see if they meet your needs – for example, the best cordless stick vacuum for hardwood floors or the best cordless vacuum for carpet.

Other Great Features

You’ll quickly see that most cordless vacuum cleaners come with a whole host of features. They can get overwhelming! Some of my recommended things to look out for include:

Anti Hair-Wrap – If you or someone you live with has long hair, this is a great feature to have. No more trying to untangle hair from the vacuum brushes.

Bags or Bagless – Many of the vacuum cleaners on the market these days are bagless – but make sure to check before buying if you have a strong preference for one with or without bags. Another feature that’s well worth having is an easy to dispose of dirt compartment to make sure the dust can be emptied easily and without any mess. I personally prefer the best cordless bagless vacuum options, as it’s one less thing to worry about!

LCD Screens – Screens make the best stick cordless vacuum super easy to use and you can see how much time you have left on your cleaner, charge status, how full the dust compartment is, etc.

If you’re going to want to use your cleaner on wet surfaces, make sure to choose one that is safe for that purpose too, as not all vacuums are suitable to use on wet carpets or floors.

Other features to look out for include easy clean filters, “headlights” on the head to make it easy to see where you’re cleaning, and wall mountable storage.
